Why Candle-Making
Hey! I’m Shavontá (you can call me Shavon) and I’m thrilled to welcome you to Von LOUJ!
I have always loved the idea of creating something with my hands and sharing that love with others. I grew up in a small South Georgia town, so southern hospitality is something that has been instilled in me from the beginning. I watched my Grandma and Mama take care of people, sharing their love through cooking extravagant Sunday meals and after church, people dropping by, filing in and out of the kitchen all afternoon.
I’ve also always had an entrepreneurial spirit since I was a small child. I would save my money, get my Mama to take me to the grocery store, buy packets of Kool-aid and gum balls and create frozen icees with treats that the bottom of the cup to sell to the kids in my neighborhood. After high school, I went to college and graduated with two degrees in Psychology, but even after 10 years in my chosen career, I felt like I wanted to do more. I wanted to figure out a way to combine my entrepreneurial spirit with my Southern hospitality to show love and bring happiness to others.
After realizing my passion for organization and home decor, and how big a role candles play in the ambiance of my own home, I began to wonder if I could make my own candles. But I didn’t want to just make them, I wanted to make them feel and smell more luxurious as they burn. Something that would give the right amount of fragrance in your home so guests would always think wow, it smells good in here but it's not so overpowering that they knew why it smelled so good before they even saw it. Like with a person who wears too much perfume versus someone who wears just enough for you to know it’s there. There’s nothing luxurious about getting smacked in the senses from too much fragrance. There’s something that feels very luxurious about lighting a candle and having the fragrance transport you to a special place. . . and that is how Von LOUJ was born.
I hope y'all love it as much as I do!
